Harnaaz Sandhu is a 21-year-old model from Punjab State was representing India at 70th Miss Universe 2021 held in Eilat, Israel has won the crown of Miss Universe 2021. Before this, the model and actress Lara Dutta had won the title of Miss Universe in 2000.
She won the crown by defeating contestants of Paraguay and South Africa. She was presented the crown by Andrea Meza, former Miss Universe 2020 from Mexico at a live-streamed event.
The contest was held in three rounds and the contestants were asked, “What advice would you give to young women watching on how to deal with the pressures they face today”.
Harnaaz answered, “The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing, is to believe in themselves. To know that you are unique makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourselves with others and let’s talk about more important things that are happening worldwide. Come out, speak for yourself, because you are the leader of your life. You are the voice of your own. I believed in myself and that is why I am standing here today.”
This answer made her stand among the top 3 contestants due to her powerful answer.
When she was in the top 5 she was asked, “Many people think climate change is a hoax, what would you do to convince them otherwise?”
She answered with impressive lines, “My heart breaks to see how nature is going through a lot of problems, and it is all due to our irresponsible behaviour. I totally feel that this is the time to take action and talk less. Because our each action could save or kill nature. Prevent and protect is better than repent and repair and this is what I am trying to convince you guys today.”
21-year-old Harnaaz Sandhu has started her modeling career with Times Fresh Face back in 2017. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in public administration. She is also working in many Punjabi films.
